WOJACZEK
Poland | 1999 | b/w | 89mins | dir.Lech Majewski
scr. Maciej Melecki phot. Adam Sikora with Krzysztof Siwczyk, Dominika
Ostalowska and Andrzej Mastalerz
An aesthetically sophisticated piece of testimony to the life of the
legendary poet Rafal Wojaczek: its passions and tragedy.
Winner of the Don Quixote Prize in Barcelona in 2000.
Krzysztof Siwczyk was nominated for the Felix European Film Award for the best actor in 2000.
Followed by Q&A with the main actor, poet Krzysztof Siwczyk and the scriptwriter,
poet Maciej Melecki.
We are also expecting the director,Lech Majewski.
RAFAL WOJACZEK, as many cursed cult poets did, killed himself at the age of 26.
It was on May 11, 1971. By then he had written less than 190 poems
published in four volumes - some of them under a female nickname.
Although loved by women, he cared for no one, least of all himself, and lived only
for poetry. Conscious of the need for myth in the mythless reality of
communist Poland, he made a burned offering of his own life, and his poetry
made a lasting impression on generations of Poles. His birth place in the
small Silesian town of Mikolów has been turned into a museum and
cultural foundation.
To give you a taste of our forthcoming retrospective of this legendary
director we invite you to a one-off screening of Krzysztof Kieslowski's
early film NO END.Sunday 18 May, 7.30pm

HELVER'S NIGHT:
Some reviews:
Brit-Pol Theatre's loving production.... is as powerful an example of
this dangerous, deliriously absurd work as you are likely to come across for
a long while. The cast are superb and are directed with tangible passion...so startingly modern,
so challenging...
TIME OUT
